Upgrading ShortKeys

Minor Updates

A minor update is identified by the major version number being the same. For example updating from v 4.0.0.1 to v 4.0.1.1 is a minor update.

  • When a minor update is installed there is no need to uninstall the previous version, adjust the preferences or worry about copying or converting macro files.

  • New versions of ShortKeys may contain new or modified functionality that is incompatible with previous versions. Be sure to read the applicable Revision History.

  • ShortKeys may automatically display a message when a minor update is available and offer to install it. The update options may be adjusted in the preferences.

Major Updates

A major upgrade is identified by a change in the major version. For example, upgrading from version 3.6.0.1 to v 4.0.0.1 is a major upgrade.

When ShortKeys starts for the first time it will look for previous installations of ShortKeys. If found, the macro files and some of the preferences will be loaded into the new version of ShortKeys. Macro files from ShortKeys 3 are copied, converted and loaded into the new version.

We recommend that you back up your macro file(s) before conversion.

  • ShortKeys 4 should not be installed in the same folder as previous versions of ShortKeys. By default, ShortKeys 4 is installed in a different folder than previous versions.

  • New versions of ShortKeys may contain new or modified functionality that is incompatible with previous versions. Be sure to read the applicable Revision History.

  • Only certain key preferences are converted during the upgrade process. Review the preference settings if your macros do not work correctly.

  • ShortKeys 3 or prior licenses will not work with ShortKeys 4. If you own a ShortKeys 3 license, you must purchase the upgrade to continue using ShortKeys 4 beyond the 30-day evaluation period.
