Preferences - Activation

 
ShortKeys is designed to run in the background. The program does not need to be displayed to run a macro. The options for activating the ShortKeys window are described below.

Activation Options
Use Notification Area

Places the ShortKeys icon in the Windows notification area.
 

Left mouse click on the icon to open the ShortKeys window.

Right mouse click on the icon to activate a menu of program options.

When not selected, a ShortKeys icon is placed in the Task Bar and remains there until the program is shut down.
 

Auto Minimize

 

Clicking outside of the ShortKeys window minimizes the window to the task bar or notification area.

If turned off, the ShortKeys window will remain open when clicking outside of the window.

 

Close Button Minimizes
 

Clicking on the X in the upper right hand corner of the ShortKeys window minimizes it to the task bar or notification area.

If turned off, clicking on the X closes the ShortKeys program. 

 

Activation Key 
To open the program window when ShortKeys is minimized, press the selected activation key combination. This combination may be used instead of clicking on the ShortKeys icon in the notification area or task bar. The activation keys available are listed below.
  

None

Ctrl + Up Arrow

Ctrl + Page Up

Ctrl + Page Down

Alt + Left Arrow

Alt + Right Arrow
 

HotKey to Suspend/Resume ShortKeys
Use a hotkey to suspend or resume use of ShortKeys. The shortkey macros will not run when the program is suspended.

 

Press the default hot key of Alt + ` to disable ShortKeys.

Press Alt + ` again to enable the program.
 

The hotkey may be changed to another combination if preferred. This option accepts combinations of Ctrl, Alt, or Shift plus another key. Pressing the Backspace key or the Delete key will set the option to None.

 
An alternative to using the hotkey is to right mouse click on the ShortKeys icon in the notification area. Left click on Suspend ShortKeys or Resume ShortKeys. The icon displays a circle with a line through it when the program is suspended.

 

Or click on File > Suspend ShortKeys from the ShortKeys window to suspend the program.
